BENGALURU: The Basavaraj Bommai cabinet on Saturday discussed ways to ease some Covid-19 restrictions and allow the celebration of the Ganesha festival in public places. The state government is under pressure from various groups and BJP legislators to grant relaxation.
At the cabinet meeting, many ministers reportedly batted for allowing public celebrations. Some apparently said Bommai should end night and weekend curfews that are still in place in some districts. “We discussed in detail about allowing celebrations. The CM will take the final call after deliberations with experts,” said law & parliamentary affairs minister JC Madhuswamy, adding a meeting was scheduled on Sunday.
The cabinet has sanctioned Rs 17.7 crore for medicines and medical equipment as part of preparations for the third wave.
