Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already released the date sheet for Classes 10 and 12 on the official website cbse.gov.in. As per the revised date sheets, Class 10 and 12 board exams will be conducted from May 4 and will conclude on June 7 and June 14 respectively.
This year the board has made some changes in the exam pattern, as well as the exam syllabus to ease the stress of the students, as they have faced several difficulties in their preparations due to COVID-19.
Changes introduced for Class 10 and 12 board exams 2021:
1. The entire syllabi of both exams were reduced by 30% last year. Students can check old question papers to understand the pattern of questions. The deduction of the syllabus, as well as the revised syllabus, is available on the board’s official website. The same can be checked here also.
Subject-wise topics that were deducted from Class 10 board exams:
Mathematics: Euclid’s division lemma, Statement and simple problems on division algorithm for polynomials with real coefficients, cross multiplication method, Situational problems based on equations reducible to quadratic equations, Application in solving daily life problems based on the sum to n terms, Area of a triangle, Proof of the theorems of triangles and squares, Construction of a triangle similar to a given triangle, motivate the ratios whichever are defined at 0o and 90o, Trigonometric ratios of complementary angles, Problems on central angle of 120°, Frustum of a cone, Step deviation Method for finding the mean, Cumulative Frequency graph.
Science: Metals and Non-metals, Carbon and its Compounds, Control and co-ordination in animals and plants, Heredity and Evolution, The Human Eye and the Colourful World, Magnetic Effects of Electric Current, Sources of energy.
Social Science: Livelihoods, Economies and Societies, Everyday Life, Culture and Politics, Print Culture and the Modern World, Forest and Wildlife, Water Resources except map items, Mineral and Energy Resources, Democracy and Diversity, Gender, Religion and Caste, Popular Struggles and Movements, Challenges to Democracy.
English: Grammar – Use of Passive Voice, Clauses: Noun, Adverb Clauses of condition and time, Relative, Prepositions, FIRST FLIGHT – Text for Class X, Literature FIRST FLIGHT: How to Tell Wild Animals, Trees, Fog, Mijbil the Otter, For Anne Gregory FOOTPRINTS WITHOUT FEET, The Midnight Visitor, A Question of Trust, The Book That Saved The Earth.
Subject-wise topics that were deducted from Class 12 board exams:
Math: Prime Numbers, Encryptions using Prime Numbers, Complex Numbers (Preliminary idea only); Algebra – Circular Permutations, Permutations with restrictions, Combinations when repetition is allowed; Calculus- Composite functions, Tangent line and equations of tangents; Unit VIII Coordinate Geometry – Parabola; Descriptive Statistics – Data interpretation (central tendency only), Types of data.

2. The board has also revised the marking schemes for the academic session 2020-2021. To familiarize the students with the new marking scheme and types of questions, the board has uploaded the subject-wise sample question paper and the model question paper on the website. 3. This year the students will also get a chance to write improvement exams and upgrade their performance in the same academic year. The Class 10 and 12 students who couldn’t pass a paper or wants to improve their score can appear for the compartmental exam in the same year. However, this will be restricted to only one subject.
CBSE has also provided the question papers of previous years’ board exams to help students in their preparation. Apart from final exams, question papers of compartment exams are also made available on the official website.
