IMPHAL: One individual was killed after a Bailey bridge over Barak river in Manipur’s Tamenglong district collapsed on Sunday when a sand-laden truck was passing via it, police stated.
The incident happened in Taobam village when the Irang bailey bridge caved in round 7 am, a senior officer stated.
“The bridge collapsed when a 10-wheeler truck carrying sand from Dimapur in Nagaland was passing via it.
The automobile, which was heading in direction of Imphal, fell into the river,” he stated.
One occupant of the truck died on the spot and two others managed to leap out of it, the police officer stated.
Locals, state police personnel and CRPF jawans rushed to the spot and began a rescue operation.
The site visitors motion on the Nationwide Freeway 37, which connects Imphal with Jiribam district, was disrupted as a result of bridge collapse.
A bailey bridge is a sort of transportable metal construction, used particularly in navy operations.
The Nationwide Highways and Infrastructure Growth Company Ltd had invited bids for the development of a four-lane bridge over the river at an estimated price of Rs 30.75 crore.
