7 Tricks to Improve Concentration

The year 2020 has been a tough ride for all the students around the world since predominantly all the classes have been digitized. And now, with final examinations are around the corner, it is high time that students start focusing on revising the syllabus to score well, especially the ones getting ready to appear for their boards.

We all know that the exams can be a bit scary but with the right prep, they can be easy to crack. Sitting and prepping with concentration can help to grasp the concept better. So, here are a few tips that are effective in improving concentration:

Control your schedule: Allowing oneself to take a few breaks while studying is alright, however, pushing yourself to study is even more important. Making time table every day will not help until one has the potential to have control over it. The student must allow himself/herself the time to relax but must also know when to strive hard. The ability to control one’s schedule will provide the student with the confidence to sit and study in one place with concentration.

Take effective breaks: Learning can be a bit hectic sometimes, but it is important to know when to take breaks. The student must take 10 to 15-minute breaks in between studying sessions as it helps to rejuvenate and allows to focus on what is being read. At times, studying continuously can feel a bit dizzy, so the students must get up from their spot and take a quick walk to the kitchen and drink a glass of water.

Designated studying spot in a peaceful environment: During the pandemic, the students are learning from home and parents are working from home, the student may feel in a fix, but the student must pick a spot in the house where there are minimum or no distractions. It will help in studying with better concentration.

Meditate before opening the books: Spending some time with yourself, practising meditation can help improve concentration skills. This is scientifically proven – Columbia University Medical Center claims that meditating for a while can change the structure and function of the brain through relaxation. Meditation increases focus and helps improve memory and attention span.

Sleeping well: Pulling all-nighter may sound fancy to many students but getting a night of sound sleep is much better, both mentally and physically. Staying awake can take a toll on the student’s mental health and may even put them under pressure. However, getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night can enable the student to concentrate well for the studying sessions.

Don’t overthink: Easy said than done? Yes maybe, but being able to avoid hard, terrifying feelings can help the student. The teen-age is very vulnerable and chances are that the student might feel quite overwhelmed with the examination and life in general. However, sitting and studying with an exhausted already occupied mind is only a waste of time. The student must share their feelings with someone who can help address them, else, not think about their feelings while studying.

Say no to social media: Everyone is on social media today. Though social media helps people connect, it also is incredibly addictive. So, the students must say no to social media and the phone while they sit to study, else they may lose interest as well as a concentration in what they are studying. The best trick is to surrender your phone to your parents while you plan to study.

In the end, the only trick is to trust yourself through the learning and exam-taking process.
